Moldova is a small land-locked country in Eastern Europe, north of the Balkans, surrounded by Romania to the southwest, across the Prut river, and Ukraine to the north and east. The largely unrecognised Transnistria occupies a sliver of the area bordering Ukraine east of the Nistru River.

Transnistria is a de facto state in Eastern Europe that has declared independence from Moldova, although it is only recognized by the other breakaway states of the former Soviet Union — Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh and South Ossetia.

Soroca is a town in the north eastern part of Moldova. Soroca is the main city and the administrative centre in the Soroca District and is somewhat known as the "Romani capital of Moldova".
